The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique addresses and corrects the source of many problems; ignorance of ongoing poor mechanical use of the body which too often leads to excessive tension, postural weakness and even pain.
We benefit enormously by learning to recognise our harmful patterns of contraction and collapse and how they are a disruption to the natural sequence and direction of movement.
Once identified we now have choice.
By knowing how to to apply the principles of the Alexander Technique we can restore the freedom to move with efficient ease to our every day lives, recreational and sporting pursuits, performances and work, even to the apparent stationary sitting at a desk for hours!
The Alexander Technique is surprisingly simple to learn because we moved with inherent efficiency as young children. The body already contains this knowledge. Coordinated ease of movement is inherent to the design.
As a teacher of the Alexander Technique I guide your awareness and intention towards allowing the body to restore this optimum way of being by reminding you of the correct sequence of movement which taps into the body's ability to be upright. Somewhere along the line the correct sequence went out when unfavourable movement patterns became the habit.
With my guidance and your intention and willingness to be reminded of what your body already knows, regardless of how dormant the memory, we can reinstate the natural habit and turn a non optimal situation around to a much better place or even prevent it's occurrence.
With application, freer movement can become the joyous norm!
As balance and efficient coordination are restored, pain and tension can diminish and a calmer and more positive disposition returns.
The Alexander Technique has been of benefit to people of all ages and walks of life for well over 100 years as it addresses the whole person, not just isolated parts, leading to more sustainable improvements in performance and well being.
